We're a family of 5, and I generally try to keep 6-12 months worth of food and supplies on hand at all times. However, my husband gets laid off work from Jan-April every year, so what I would like to strive for is to grow/can/preserve/bulk buy all of our food for the year by December. That way we can somewhat coast until he gets back to work in April. It means we'll be spending more during the other 8-9 months of the year in order to stock up, but it will also give me practice learning to live on what's in our food storage for a few months each year. Thanks for the inspiration!

Royalty Soaps on YouTube has a whole series on how to start soaping. She goes over safety and precautions and has a recipe available along with suppliers. It may be worth checking into.
