Why There are Foxes in Japanese Noodles #Shorts
Besides the famous ramen and soba, Japan also has a delicious noodle dish called udon. There are various types of udon depending on the toppings, such as “meat udon” or “tempura udon,” but the most typical is “kitsuné (fox) udon.”

What?! Japanese eat foxes?! Please don’t worry.

The udon topping called kitsuné is not real fox, but is abura-agé (fried tofu). Abura-agé is a Japanese dish made by frying thinly sliced tofu in oil.

And because this dish was believed to be a favorite of foxes, or because the fried tofu resembled the foxes’ color, it seems to have come to be called kitsune.

Foxes have been regarded as lucky animals that bring prosperity to business since ancient times, and it is said that they originated in Osaka, the city of merchants. When you try out udon in Japan, be sure to try some Kitsune Udon!
